Five Differences between Playing Live Poker vs. Online Poker
There are quite a few differences that could be noted about playing live poker vs. playing online poker at somewhere like Full Tilt Poker and there important to understand. It’s especially important that you understand the differences if you play both live poker and online poker, because you’ll be required to switch your playing style.
I’ve been playing pocker in the casinos and online at Poker Stars.net for awhile now and have found that I need to play a lot differently. The game itself is still the exact same, but the way you play the game needs to change when you’re playing in front of other players rather then in front of a computer screen. Let’s now look at five differences between playing live poker and internet poker.
#1 – The Game is Faster Online
The game is played a lot faster online and you don’t have nearly as much time to make decisions. Now this is fine for most people, but I know there are quite a few people out there who take their time when making big plays. In an online poker atmosphere you’ll usually have a maximum of sixty seconds to act or your hand is folded. The reason they do this online is so that the action continues moving and players don’t purposely sit there and take their time because their angry. I think it’s needed online as a feature, but I know some of you live players will have trouble getting used to the faster action.
#2 – The Action is Loose Online
If you’re used to playing in a casino where most players play tight poker you’ll be quite surprised when you play online poker. The young crowd of online players who play online are very loose poker players and love bluffing and betting. Now this can be good as you can trap players into losing big pots, but they may also be able to push you off of some hands on cold hard bluffs. You can’t be scared to lose some money online because if you are then you’ll have trouble facing the competition online that aren’t afraid of betting and betting big.
#3 – Difficult to Find a Tell Online
When playing online at UB Poker it’s a lot harder to pick up a tell from the other players because you don’t get to see them. When you play live poker you have the luxury of watching and analyzing the other poker players on your table. This can result in picking up bluffs and can win you a lot of money. The best poker players win because they can read other players, but doing this online is impossible to do,
#4 – Variety
There is a lot more variety of poker games online to play. In most casinos you’ll only find Texas Holdem and maybe Omaha, but all the other great poker games won’t be available. This is because there wouldn’t be enough players to make it profitable for the casino, but online it’s easy to add these different variations to their rooms.
#5 – Rake
The rake in online games is cheaper then what you’ll pay in a casino such as The Venetian, and there is also the fact that in casinos you’ll be expected to tip when you win pots.
